How to Make New Years Eve a Family Event

Expecting young guests for New Year’s Eve? Here is how you can make ringing in the New Year a family event!

Celebrating New Years Eve with guests of all ages can be a bit of a challenge. After all, traditionally New Year’s involves quite a few cocktails and some fancy attire. However, with a little forethought and some creativity a family-friendly New Year’s Eve can be an exciting and fun event for all.

Here are some unique and inventive ideas to make your all-ages bash one to remember:

Make a New Year’s piñata!

Children love piñatas, and will always look forward to taking a swing in hopes of starting a shower of delicious sweets. Piñatas are simple to make, but if you do not feel you have the time, visit your local party supply store for pre-made piñatas. All you will need to do is buy some bulk candy, fill the piñata, and invite all of your young guests to take their best shot!

Hire a few confetti makers!

Try involving all of your young guests in the excitement of New Year’s Eve by appointing them “the official confetti makers”! To begin this craft, simply purchase some special craft supplies such as colored construction paper, sparkling sprinkles, stencils, stickers, and even miniature balloons. Tell all of your “confetti-teers” to make as much confetti as they can to be released at mid-night. The children will appreciate a craft project and will feel flattered to be given such a big responsibility!

Have a make-their-own New Year’s Eve treat!

Whether you set up a sundae bar, a collection of candy jars or pizza-making center, kids will love to make their own special New Year’s Eve treats. Parents will appreciate your effort and will enjoy their own meal more knowing that the kids are taken care of. However, if you plan a “make-it-yourself” activity make sure to check with all of the adults you have invited regarding food allergies or limitations.

Have a midnight movie theatre!

If you are expecting quite a few teens or tweens at your New Year’s Eve event, consider designating one room of your home as a movie hangout. Rent some of your guest’s favorite films and stock a mini-fridge with pop, goodies and popcorn. Your young guests will love the independence and the parents will be able to carry on with their own celebration knowing everyone is happy and safe!
