No one wants to go to a lame New Year’s Eve party. Follow these steps to make sure that yours is the most memorable one your guests have ever seen!

  1. Hiring caterers for the party might be one of the easiest and best decisions you could make. Not only will it give you a substantial amount of time to plan other aspects of the party, but the guests are very unlikely to be disappointed by the food. Professional caterers know exactly what kind of traditional dishes to prepare and are experts at capacity planning, so chances are there will be no shortage of food.
  2. Whether you decide to cater the party or not, the food selection is extremely important. You may want to go with exotic food, or keep it plain and simple. Either way, do your best to appease all of the guests at the party to minimize any complaints.
  3. Placing picture books and albums around the house from year’s past can be a fun and interactive way to bring in the New Year.
  4. Alcoholic beverages are a staple on New Year’s so while stocking the standard liquors and beers, try to mix it up with a couple rare and unique drinks to mark the occasion. People will certainly remember them.
  5. Live entertainment may be a costly expenditure, especially during the holidays, but nothing will go farther in making your party memorable.
  6. If you choose to fore go the live entertainment, pick your music wisely. Make sure that you have a diverse, popular, and relevant selection of music to play. Many play list ideas are available online that can give you great ideas for New Year’s parties.
  7. Employ the use of a theme to really get people to remember your party. Just having a “New Year’s” theme probably isn’t enough because this is what people will be expecting. Instead choose something like “casino night,” or “New Year’s Under the Sea” to really make your party unique.
  8. Game playing is not a standard New Year activity but when done in the right manner it can make the party quite enjoyable. Whether you choose to play board games, group activity games or video games, making games accessible early in the party can prove to be an effective icebreaker.
  9. Be sure that your party is well organized. Nothing can be more embarrassing than poorly designed, planned, and executed party. Remember to make your party memorable for the right reasons, not the wrong ones!
  10. Consider giving people a keepsake to remember the holiday, perhaps a New Year card or gift. This will not only make them excited about the holiday but also the year to come!

If you want to throw an unforgettable, unique party then I suggest finding a theme for your party, such as an 80s party, a salsa party, or even a superhero themed party where all the guests come dressed as their favorite heroes.

Theme parties can be a lot of fun, as can many other types of parties. Your ideas have merit and I appreciate your sharing them with us.
